Being able to play online cd key question

Im not asking for a cd key but am curious how it works.Does the game itself have its own personal cd key thats issued to it or does it just verify online when trying to connect if its a valid number? If it is on the cd itself how would ou go about finding it? I hope Im not breaking the rules by asking these questions I really just want to know how it works and if I like the game I should just buy it then cheat with it lol. I am not a true believer in that theory but this aint my forum either so it is when Im here.Thanks for any info on this guys

Like most games Doom 3 needs a valid cd key so you can authenticate to their master server for online play.

1. Each game product distributed has its own personal CD Key that gets issued to it. When it connects to the internet to play on a multiplayer server, it connects to the master server for authentication as sikaflex provided earlier.

2. If I recall correctly, the CD Key is located in the Registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>ID>Doom3

Or something like that. The actual CD Key is located on the back of the Doom 3 Manual.

ok thanks so it has its own personal cd key that is issued to that cd.So why dont the cd key makers that work for the game to play single player but online then its detected as incorrect cd key .its weird how a cd key generator will actually make one that works good enough to install but not listed I guess on there master server.Anyway Im not as confused as I was so thanks for the info!

A CD key generator is created to 'trick' a game into thinking that the CD key is valid by suplying the appropriate combination of letters and numbers, depending on the game.

The master server has a complete list of every factory created cd with its cd key, so it cross references them...

That's a big no no Dougie_uk. I am sorry but we do not permit or aid discussions that thrive by taking the money from developers that work hard to provide games to the community. Multiplayer cracks that allow a person to play an illegal copy of the game and forged cd keys are such.
