Some Please Help!!!!

i am running a cs server and my internet went down... the cabel guys came out and fixed it... one guy notised that i have cs and he started to mess wiht my .cfg files in my cstrike folder and he choose the option "always open with" "notepad" now all my ".cfg" wont open right.... i dont know how to set back to origional settings. i am running win 98.... if anyone can hlp me please do so...

i think it has something to do with changeing your assossaties with .cfg back to default

ok let me think of the best way to explain this... well windows does this werid thing and when you select a file in a folder and choose a program to open the file up windows should have made all the simalar files exe with that program... when you go into your cs folder you should see your cfg and auto exe bat files opening up with note pad... i think windows does this to make things easier... to put it back you r going to need to right click the file.... then go to properties.... and you should see something in the like open with note pad... as far as it messing up somthing in the game well it doesn't... alot of hacks modify your cfg useing notepad... scripts are written using notepad... chances r that somthing is messed up with your files not just the fact that the default was changed to open with notepad! i hope that kind of expains things a little better

hmm, there are two ways, one is to reset the unregister that extension and the other is to register it with some other file opener.
If you do not have any programs to open that and either you do not wish to touch registry or never used it before, I suggest you do this:

- Hold Shift and right click on the file that has been registered as something you do not want to be registered as.

- Click on Open with and you will get a new dialogue box with a whole lot of programs, select the one you want or choose a custom one and you have to search for it yourself.

- Click use this program for all other filenames using this extension or whatever its called and then click ok.

- Hit refresh button a couple of times or F5 and open that file, you will see it using that program to open it.

If you have messed in registry before or you do not have any programs reg'd with it and you are bold. Do this:

- Start| Run
- Type in "regedit" without the quotes
- Registry | Export Registry file and select all branches and export to somewhere you can remember it when to recover in case of accident.
- Under HKEY_Classes_Root go to the location that is ".cfg" without quotes. Select it and delete that key.
- Close it and open to the location with the .cfg files or make a new text file and rename it to .cfg. You should see it with the original windows type icon. If unsuccessful, recover that file you made earlier and run it.

Here is the EXACT SIMPLE ANSWER U NEED ...

Its made in few simple steps ... U dont need to change it back ... It wont hurt anything ... But If u want so much listen ...

find 1 file of the TYPE u wanna change (cfg,jpg or whatever) RightClick On it WHILE HOLDING SHIST A NEW OPTION IN THE MENU WILL SHOW ... "Open With" Click on it and a window will apear showing most of the posible software u can use to open it the thing the huy changed was that ... And if u wanna make it like it was before select the fist onn on the list and chek the option "always open with this" the fist gotta be one with no icon no name no extansion :) get it thats the dedault but u realy dont need to restore it the option in the fist place saves u that clicing and slecting if u wanna open a file with a strange extension :) For Example my CS CONFIG Is not a *.CFG its a *.RC and when i wanna edit it i your case i gotta click open and then select not pad and then check off the option always open bla bla bla ok and i u gotta do this 10 20 30 time oh boy do u get sick of it so just leave it that way ...

um i downloaded some hacks and they made me play wit minimized screen,then i deleted the hacks yet i still gotta play wit the minimized screen, i tried deleting All Halflife file and reinstallin halflife but the screen is still minimized wat do i gotta do

Sounds like you have set a setting somewhere to make to program run minimized, check the property setting for the executables and the shortcut.
