enabling fast weapon switch in HL2

It seems I can't enable fast wep switch in HL2, so that I can take advantage of high grav gun jumps, like in my previous posts regarding HL2DM. Any suggestions?

Anyway, enable it in Options > Keyboard > Advanced > Enable fast-weapon switch.
It doesn't work when scrolling, but when you press a number (1-5) you switch to those weapons quickly instead of getting a menu.
Also, the switch from grav gun to normal gun and after that back to gravity gun is almost instant when using 'lastinv' (AKA the q button). You don't have to wait for the normal gun to pop up, you can switch back immediately. :)

In 'deathmatch' I can do the grav jump trick, no sweat. I am referring to plain old hl2. Enabling fast switch does -not- work in hl2, but does work in deathmatch. Well, it works a bit, but you certainly can't get on top of an object and insta-fire yourself up 20 stories like you can in deathmatch. You can switch weps fast but holding down grav gun primary fire doesn't shoot like it does in DM. Can't figure it out..*whimper*
