How much RAM do you have? The recommended is 1GB I would even say 2GB would improve game play, try adding more RAM as it's cheaper then upgrading processors and video cards.

This sounds to me like "The Linux Server error" aparently BF2 Linux servers have a prob on map load, EA said they where working on it but...
That you get kicked to desktop in middle of game could be simply that the game needs a patch, again EA will most likely release one soon. Also if trying to get in to ranked servers and klicking to much and long in the server browser the game can do just that, kick you to desktop i mean. Nothing is perfect but like I said I am sure things will be alot better after the Patch...lets hope so at least.

I got a simmilar prob, thought it was fixed somehow, but.
When I use the Com Inteface and hit Spotted the game just blips out to desktop, not always but like 3 out of 5. maybe its just my me or has someone had this aswell.

Im more of a Nvidia guy but I dont think that the 9600 had a temp sensor..another reason to go Nvidia,, but if it does you need to check the temp in the game.. keep it open then play..after a while hit alt/tab and check it...it drops fast so be fast..it goes into a safe or lag mode at around 70c...but if it keeps rising in safe mode it will kick you to desk top or fry..
I call it safe mode but you never even know its on.. it just underclocks the card to cool down...but try this too...underclock your ram about 40% see if it still does it...believe it or not the GPU or video cpu has little affect when underclocked.. its the speed of the ram that makes it fast not the GPU..(not how much ram,,, but how fast it is)...try underclocking both then benchmarking ,,you will see what I mean..but try underclocking the ran and test it..

And increasing page filing could help if your low on ram…minimal amount of ram is 1 gig,,but for good performance,,, best thing to do is get two gigs of ram and turn off page filing … page filing is when the computer uses the hardrive for temp..ram and the hardrive is super slow compared to the memory. The goal is to have the entire game play from the ram not the hardrive..page filing is bad for gaming very bad.. but like I said if you don’t have enough ram to load the entire game plus more for windows and what ever else is running the you have to have page filling.. do the math… game is around 700megs windows using around 250 megs.. that alone is 1 gig,,,then anti virus..if there are any game upateds….exc..

I will give the Zer0point drivers a shot. my game crashes to the desktop all the time.

never goes over 45..wow .my water cooled cards run at 55c just at idle..twin SLI ..PCI express 6800's .. but like i said if you dont check it fast during game play it doesnt give you a correct reading it will drope about 5 to 6c.. a second.. small heat sinks ...I never like omega drivers very buggy...but glad you fixed it .. wish I could have been more help.
chaotik I know the 9800 is a hot card check yours and see what you get...anything over 70c is a problem.. i would worry at 65c

Yeah i also get crashing to the desktop after playing for a while and also get that "thread is deallocating main thread" error sometimes. I've tried increasing my pagefile to the max it will allow (4096 MB) and reducing my AGP aperature size to 64 MB, and the game seemed to last longer before crashing, but it still crashes. :cry:

What i don't understand is that i can play the demo just fine without crashing at all, but the retail game crashes like a mofo! Guess i should just wait for a patch or something. Or maybe get more ram cause all i have is 512 MB...

The game crashes to the desktop often. I have never had an error message, just lame lockups and random crashes. I'm also one of the people that played the demo without a single problem.

Well.. this is how I check my temps . .but I use Nvidia not ATI..but I have several friends that were having overheating 9800’s just in the last two weeks.. summer is coming on and the fan is usually covered with lint… make sure your heat sink is clean and is getting airflow;.. but in the picture is the Nvidia probe .. the other guy said that ATI has the same thing so..do like I did there….keep that open then either start a benchmark program or start the game but keep the box open and check from time to time…as I bench in the picture those earth globes move back and forth very fast but as the card hits 65 to 70 they slow down to about 20% of what they started at..that’s the card saving itself from death … and ATI no having to warrenty you a new card…major ,,major problem with newer video cards.. .expecially if you live in a warm climate/.. I doubt Canadians have to worry about there ATI’s everheating but Im in California its hits 90 F about everyday in the summer and I have fried many card and CPU.s that’s why I went to water..had too.no choice..

but there are a lot of other possible causes .. you system could be infested with spyware… you many need more system ram…. 1 gig is minimum….make sure you turn on you system task bar and turn off running programs like antivrust….the 9800 should play the game fine…..also in the second pictire is my clock speeds try underclocking you video ram…down about 20 % that frixed it for a friend with the same problem and card.he was overheating and under clocking made it run much cooler.oh you aant see the globes in the bench,, didnt come out in the screen capture

I don't think this is a hardware issue, almost every person that I have talked to during multiplayer has said their game crashes. I have no lint in my fans, no spyware (fresh boot 2 days ago) no additional programs running in the backround, cool temps and a dope video card that should eat this game..

I'm going to pick up another 512 stick this week. My guess is it still crashes.

probably just a bug in the game - even now with BF1942 some maps will crash u back to desktop; midway is a prime example.
several other forums and ingame ppl have been complaining of the same thing - random crash to desktop. it'll be sorted sometime i'm guessin.
another reason i never buy a game until at least the first patch is released.

512 being the recommended amount of ram is crazy.. but how many games would they sell (BF2) if they said you needed 1 gig.,,,.not many.I think most of us are on a different level of computing than 75% of the people out there.. so one gig of ram my seem like a huge amount to people especially with the prices of the new DDR only a few years ago 512 would have sounded like major overkill..but with today games and how XP is slowly turning towards becoming a system that runs like a flash drive. meaning from temporary memory and not the hardrive. 1 gig of rams is not much anymore.. You can see this trend moving on all of the hardware for example . cache memory is memory integrated into the particular part of the computer to make that part more self reliant by using its own memory and not the the systems.,thus increasing the speed to which it can perform its task at…when you see a new CPU with 1 or even 2 mgs of cache.. that is just memory built into it.. so it doesn’t have to run down the motherboard and get it else ware. even hardrives are starting to have large amouts of cache.. its faster.
So when you get a new CPU the MHZ or clock speeds have less and less important anymore… there already high enough now its coming down to other bottlenecks and cache memory is the latest trend…
I have 3 gigs of ram in my machine at the moment maybee its overkill,, but I can tell you if I removed 2.5 of it and ran BF2 or even Bf 1942 usin g only 512 the game would be night and day..if your playing with 512 of sytem ram I don’t know how you do it.. game is hardly even playable at least on any of my machines.,,
I have a completely different view on video memory too.. its used differently and I can see no difference in benchmarking and real time performance with large amounts of it.. 128 seems to be fine as far as video memory is concerned.. between 128 and 256 no difference in my experience, but now the speed of video ram is very very important .. so when buying a video card don’t worry about getting 256 or 512 ran just make sure it’s the DDR3 running at at least 1Ghs speed

If you have a 9200 or 9250 ati radeon, you must set your agp speed to 4x. And if you update your drivers select package 2, package 1 dosent seem to work with this quick fix.

If you have a decent processor and a really good video card, you can play the game with only 512mb. With all of the settings on LOW it's possible to play on all of the small and most of the medium maps, large forget it. There are times even on small maps that I catch my system lagging however.

The patch has fixed most of the problems for me. The game still crashes once in a while and I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that it's due to a lack of memory. Still waiting for my other stick of 512 to show up..

Have you tried to downgrade the sound setting in the BF2 options from hardware excelleration to software. There's tons of known bugs with the 3d sound rendering they're using with the hardware excelleration and the bugs are all similar yet different depending on which sound card you use. Honestly it shouldn't have been released with the bugs. I had the same prob. w/the team chat stuff (especially when it was spamming)

Naaa its fixed in the new patch, and I use hardware got an audigy 4 card so that was not the prob. It was the LEFT MOUSE button that caused this, I use that for walking etc.
Actualy the whole game runs better after the patch, eaven alot of peeps been complaining about it. I realy dont have nothing to say against 1.01.....yea maybe that the server browser could still be better, but thats about it.

As long as your running only 512megs of system ram..trouble shooting problems is almost imposable…I searched around to find the best deal for a 512 stick of ddr 400..unless your computer is over 3 years old then this is what you need ..best price I could find ..keep in mind that pc2700..3200 ect are all compatible with each other but getting one stick that is faster than the other will not increase the speed.. it will run at the slowest speed of the ram you have.. pc2700 = ddr266 pc3200 =ddr400 ..ect…
Your slot should have one notch in it for the ddr ram…(-----------------I----------------------------) ßlike that…not two notches like the old ram..

when im using n7bf2 03b my game lags like shit, and it's mostly not the ping cuz without it i can play decently (accually, better then with it XD) and it's kinda sad cuz even with water and terrain and everything off (all hax on) it still chops around as i move and try to kill ppl with the auto aim/shoot, yet they always kill me first because im lagging.

now is this:
due to something im loading wrong
my computer (prolly, geforce 4 5200, 1 gig of ram, 2.9 ghz prescott)

Nvidia 5200 is not a good card for bf2... I have 4 in my closet.... you need to upgrade.. if you stay fx then at least a 5900 would be Okk but go 6800 or maybe even a 6400 would be ok.. I know the 6600 will play it good because I have one i use as a spare but its SLI or pci-express but same specs. looking at around $200.00 us for a 5900 or 6600

T.T im poor lol i can't afford a decent card (in fact, this one's my friend's lol) so im guessing that means that it's hardware problems >.<

also when i join punkbuster servers, it boots me out, not because i have hax on (not that i don't :D) but because of some crap o/s privleges and i looked it up on google and it says its cuz of process guard (which i do have) so i uninstalled it like ur sopposed to but punkbuster still busts me for that (Blocked o/s privledges: 4fc). Did/Does any1 else have this problem and/or no how to fix it even though i already uninstalled processguard, deleted it from the registry, and restarted many times?

check your temps on the 5200 then ... keep the temp monitor on then start the game.. while in the game hit alt/tab and see how hot it is.. anything over 68-70c is a problem what happens is the card goes into a safe mode so it doesnt fry and safe mode is lag mode..

Its possible that your card my be a cheaper 5200 without a temp sensor but..most do ..
So If you go into display properties/setting /advanced/5200/you don’t get a temp section on the right…??? if not it could be the drivers. Some don’t but your card my not have one.the only other software that will show it is Nvtune… that i know of,, one other one but forget the name..

and I forget about the punkbuster kick,, maybe COX will step in on that one.. I havent been playing BF2 stilll a 1942 fan..

yea i read through all that stuff before im the only administrator blah all that stuff i have privlidges lol and i uninstalled processguard but it still does it

and no my video card doesn't have a sensor but i got it to work decently well except when i use the auto aim lock and shoot then it starts lagging a bit but it works now (i just can't run in windowed mode or it kills my cpu lol, i was doing that because for some reason my monitor wouldn't let me go to 800 x 600 fullscreen O.O and still wont) cuz i switched monitors and i can play fullscreen :D

but still no punkbuster servers, which is like EVERYTHING lol >.<
plz help if u fixed that error on urs :P

but if ur still getting kicked by PB for admin rights etc then i strongly suggest updating and running full system scans with some spyware scanners; ad-aware SE, spybot search and destroy etc. also maybe a full scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ .

u might have to search the registry and delete any/all references to process guard. also a quick check of the services running msconfig > services tab will allow u to see which non-M$ services are running. maybe even startup cleaning whilst in msconfig might be useful. i also noted that process guard must be uninstalled in safe-mode.

And i already seen and read every thing on that site and the important ones that it links to (like the one where the dude is having the exact same problem, but every1 just tells him to reinstall windows, which is out of the question for me)

-EDIT- I ran it with Internet exploder and i click full scan then it asks me to install something and i do then it just asks me to select what to scan, but i can't cuz the box is empty, it looks like there's soposed to be a pik there cuz i can see the little x thing in the top left corner of the box >.<

responsible for any damages: real, imagined or
otherwise caused by the improper or proper use of
this program. In other words, use at your own risk.

Don’t worry about the warning.. even bench mark software sais that…it’s a safe tool…
BFG recommended I set my AGP to 128 but 64 worked better for me…so try them both 255 is an ATI setting that’s odd it would be set at that…but regardless 255 is way to high..
Its wont help benchmarks but will help stability ..

alrite i'll read that now, but it stops lagging now basically cuz i run it in fullscreen, before i couldn't because the video card is broken somehow and i still duno y but if i have one screen it won't let it go into 600 x 800 res, so i put in anotuher and cloned it then put my screen on the 2nd and unpluged the first one now works like a charm.


today i also uninstalled my antivirus to see if that was the problem (kav, kaspersky antivirus) and im gonna test it soon, i'll update on that later

as for the anti virus i was playing on 1.00 servers before and only a few of them work without legit cd key (not telling which) and those haven't updated to 1.02 yet, and i don't no if they will >.< but if i get this punkbuster problem fixed i will definetly buy the game, but i dun wanan buy it then not be able to play on any server >.<

i got a 1.02 server with pb and it stills kicks me out, so im gonna reinstall bf2 and see if that helps at all

Nope, but it hapens sometimes, try later. There was also an attack on GS servers some week ago that made log in almost imposible, but I at least dont have any probs now.

this is definitely not hack related but i am not sure of an exact place to go to find the answers or to hear if there is something going on with the servers.

the problem is that i am having connection and disconnection problems, but mainly i cannot connect to a game server (nearly any of them). it either says connection problem or it just returns back to the servers list without an explanation-

anyone else having this or know what i should do. if i have been banned from a server or servers wouldn't it say so? i get no message except for connection lost or connection problem.

Hmmm Been playing almost whole eavning here and all is well....but thats on Ger and Eng servers. Have had what you describe, but not for some time. maybe they are fixing that Weapon unlock Bug/Hack....who knows.

For some reason, I'm having the same problem. It just started today, too. I can log in, but I can't join any server; it says 'Joining server', then just goes back to the list for some reason with no message.

I would realy recomend The Alll Seeing Eye for conecting to servers.
The Ingame Server Browser still is not optimized, maybe that will change in patch 1.03, lets hope so. Not sure if this will help with the conection problem, but it for sure makes it easier to find servers fast.

If you read on the ATI forums, its a known issue in BF2 and some other games with the CATALYST 5.5-5.8 on Radeon 9xxx series cards..
All we can do for now is wait for yet another "update" of the CATALYST drivers...

well i have had the same problem with my 9600 pro in the past. i went back to my pc store and they adviced me to download some other drivers at omegadrivers.net. but first make sure the old driver is completly removed.
result was: my mohaa game stopped crashing.
maybe u guys (and girls) can give it a try.

That error could be caused by a plethora of possibile things.



Below are a few tips for troubleshooting, give them a try in any order, like I said: it could be anything:

1) Make sure you have the latest drivers for your wifi card.
2) Disable your wired NIC device in the BIOS.
3) Move your wifi-connected computer closer to your wireless router, or vice-versa.
4) Assign your wifi card a static IP address. If your wireless router automatically assigns your wifi card an IP address once the card connects to the network, you could bind that IP address to your wifi card. In all of my wireless experience (I have a fair amount), this is a common reason a wireless signal is dropped, along with distance and XP's Wireless Zero Configuration in general *bleh*.
5) Speaking of WZC, if you have a Zonet/ZyDaS, Linksys, D-Link or a Netgear wifi card, you can disable WZC (start->run->services.msc) and use the utility provided with your wifi card's drivers. Other brands may have wifi utilities as well. Again in my experience, I've found that a good 70% of the time, the manufacturer-provided wifi utility holds the connection much longer than XP's built-in utility.

As Judas989 said, it could be a lot of things, but what it most likely is because of using WireLess. Using WiFi causes latency(which is like ping but just a little different). See ping has to do with your internet connection to the servers. Latency is has to do with your computer to your internet connection, well not exactly but I am tryying to put this into simple terms. In short, the problem is being caused between your computer to your internet connection.

Spontaneous is right, it's most likely due to the wireless connection. Playing multiplayer games via wifi isn't necessarily impossible but speed and connectivity are usually more reliable using a wired connection.

always on karkand and wake when commander send arty BAM (aaaa)<--(artyllery your area) and game crash.
But everything was okay before 1.12 patch.
DEMO work smooth.

edit: sometimes game just freeze and PC too.
None of the shortcuts work. have to switch it off.

Only thing I can think of is that you have some modified or corrupt sound files. However since you re-installed the game that should have been resolved. Unless it is the last applied patch that is corrupting them.

You might want to try and get another copy of the patch and re-install.


On a side-note you have integrated soundcard not a PCI sound card. It might get reported that way but thats the hardware fooling the system to make it seem better than it is. No offence intended. Installing a dedicated PCI sound card will actually improve gameplay as the CPU doesn't have to waste cycles dealing with the sound aspect; should be worth about 3-5fps. Only guessing that figure because that is what I got in BF1942 after installing an Audigy2 many moons ago.

Hey, i was wondering if anyone can help me out with this problem that im having. This is what happened, i just got kicked from a server for stat padding. Now my first question is wtf is stat padding.

Also i have noticed that my stats arent updated anymore. At the end of a round i will have like around 60 pts. Then i go back to see my account progress and it stays the same. all the medals i get are not found anymore.

Just to clarify, i dont use hacks for this game. this is probably the only game i will chose to play w/o hacks cause its just that fun with out it. Anyways, appreciate the help.

maybe time for an upgrade. u don't say which x700 you have - there were several versions all with different memory sizes and bandwidth.

I updated BF2 to v1.2 with the update tool that updates v1.12 to v1.2 and when i started bf2 again everything was normal until I joined a server and suddenly there was no building on the map (daqing oilfields) i could watch through the buildings, but my framerate was horrible so i quit. would have been nice without lag cause then i would've had a good wallhack

I got a problem with VoIP. When my mic is enabled and VoIP is enable. My game start lagging and my ping is 300+ , after a few minutes VoIP disable it by itself. When i restart the game VoIP is enabled again and the whole thing is repeated again.

Yes, BF2 uses an abundent amount of system resources. It's a hog and yes there is a small memory leak. Besides ram is cheap, no reason for anyone not to have 2gigs.

1st Of all make shure DX9c is installed.
2nd Try reinstall (always works)

Edit: What monitor did you use?
Try to manually change resolution to 1024x768@60 or 75 hertz

BF2 has been freezing the entire computer . I got (all new) FX-57 Asus 8NSLI Premium 4g/ram, 2-7800GTX's W/D 80gig/10,000rpm HDR's / 24"Monitor.. I've used every driver made,I've set all the resolutions on HIGH to LOW on 1&2 cards. I've reloaded and changed H/D configurations with no results. It sometimes will do it every 15 min. or so then it will go for 12-15 hours straight w/o any problems. I've read a forums about the issue and I'm not the only one that has it but there were no common denominators that held a consistant pattern,Seemed as everyone has simular configurations as mine but were also having the same prob. wheather it was Intel or Amd but all had Nvidia cards. Anywho I was wondering if anyone here may have or is having the same problem.

Okay i unistalled BF2 today and now i want to reinstall(i unistalled a tried to reinstall in about a 30 min period). every time i try to reinstall i get a error message saying "Failed to install Battlefield 2, Try again from the begginning." Little hint for all ati card owners. If game suddenly wont start (launches,but doesn't go into the movie part or login part) or crashes to desktop try to enable or disable "Enable write combining". Worked for me two times.

Check if You have installed some proccess guard, port scanners or similar utility that monitors (and prevents) port traffic, affects processes etc... It happened to me as well when I had installed Process Guard...
