The way to fix 999 ping is this:
Go to-->Start Menu-->Control Panel-->Security Center-->Windows Firewall-->Exceptions
When you are in exceptions, click add port, the port to add is 7700 , Also, make sure it is a UDP port.
Method 2:
The other method is by going to your router's or modem's website, for example "www.linksys.com" and adding the port there, and if you have a different firewall, you have to add the port in there as well.
I hope this will make less laggers.

Which verision of windows do you have? and do you have sp1 or sp2?
It's only on windows xp sp2, if you have a firewall, make sure you open port 7700, if you do not have ANY firewall, and you know your router/modem isn't blocking port 7700, then I don't know what to tell you.

If you have a router, make sure you turn on port-fowarding, and make sure you open access to port 7700, The port should be 7700 unless you changed the default port in GunZ
