yeah this alt tab out shit wont work if your in a match. sometimes it works if you are in the lobby. the best thing i prefer is to play in windowed mode. then you can do whatever you like without closing the game

I use CTRL+ALT+DEL to open task manager when ALT+TAB doesn't work. That or sometimes pressing the windows key while ALT+TAB works too.
NOT: CTRL+ALT+DEL
when you in-game or in lobby, you can press ALT+ESC

CTRL+ALT +DEL works too. It brings up task manager & desktop.
Control + escape works well
alt + escape always works fine, and doesn't open task manager, it just bring you back to your desktop.
Press Alt+enter to get windows mode and you can basically do anything while waiting for something/someone
