[Fix] Windows SP2: CoD / UO / CoD 2 Crashing Problems

this error is usually caused by windows Xp service pack 2
there are loads of threads on this topic if u just look,

u can un-install this and that will fix the error

The reason for this error is b'cuz the hack needs to inject itself into the game
sp2 stops it from doin this

The exe is used to load the dll "the hack" into the game,
sp2 changes the windows boot.ini file
so it stops the exe from loading the .dll into game,
    hence the error message

one way to fix this is to remove sp2
    my computer>control panel>remove programs>delete all things (SP2)

or there is "i think" a fix for sp2,
just do a search on the forum and you should find the fix i am
    talking about.

Any other threads posted on this topic will be deleted/removed as soon as
    i see them

hence the name of this thread,

Another possible reason for the "CoDMP.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" error:

Make sure you have a US / British copy of Windows and game. If you do not have a US / British copy of either, then you are out of luck. Do not ask where to obtain these versions.

    Also, do the following:

    1. Go to Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs.

    2. Scroll all the way down the list until you see a bunch of Windows XP Hotfixes.

    3. Next to the word "Hotfix," there is the Hotfix number (KB######). Write each of these Hotfix numbers down.

    4. Go to www.google.com and do a search for each of the Hotfix numbers (one per search).

    5. Look at the search results. If SP2 is mentioned, make a note of the Hotfix number.

    6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have researched every installed Hotfix.

    7. Be sure to make a backup of your system before uninstalling the Hotfixes that involve SP2. Once you have finished backing up your system, follow the on-screen instructions to remove the SP2-related Hotfixes.

If you still have no luck:

    1. Navigate to your CoD directory.

    2. Find the game executable (CoDMP.exe or CoDUOMP.exe).

    3. Right click the game executable and click Properties.

    4. Click the compatibility tab.

    5. Under Compatibility mode, click the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Windows 2000 from the drop-down list.

    6. Click Apply and then click OK.

    7. Retry the hack.

    If all else fails:

Move to the United States and buy a new computer.

The following guide was originally posted by adamtrance. I have edited it to make reading easier:

I've done some research and now finally understand why hacks work for some people that have SP2 and why they do not work for other people.

Now let me explain. There is more than one version of SP2:

There is the "Beta" version called SP2 RC1 (Release Candidate 1), and after that came the real SP2 with the automatic updates and everything else.

Now the difference is that SP2 RC1 has the featureas of the SP2 but it still has the features of SP1, while the normal SP2 removed the SP1 features.

To find you if you have SP2 RC1, or normal SP2 do this:
    1. Go to: Start > Run type in: sysdm.cpl ,press OK
    2. Go to: Advanced tab > under Performance "settings"
    3. And then go to the "Data Execution Prevention"

Now if you see something like this:
    http://www.theeldergeek.com/images/...0525-094926.jpg
Then you are in luck. You can simply click "Turn off DEP" and voila! Hacks now work.
If you have the "Turn off DEP" missing, then you have the normal SP2 and this trick won't work.

If you do have the normal SP2, you need to obtain the Win XP Pro SP2 RC1 Integrated (no warez discussion allowed). You then need to delete Windows and install the new version of Windows from scratch.

I hope this cleaned everything up. Don't blame the coders if their hacks are not SP2 compatible! They're kind enough to share their hacks, so you should do a little work for yourself.

Bottom line: delete SP2 or install SP2 RC1!
These unedited instructions were originally posted by Gosuzeek:

    Uninstalling SP2
This service pack contains an uninstall mechanism that you can use to restore your computer to its previous state. When you run W2ksp2.exe to install SP2, a subfolder named $NTServicepackUninstall$ is automatically created in your systemroot folder. To turn off this W2ksp2.exe option, see the Install SP2 earlier in this artlcle.
    Important:

If you install any programs or services that require SP2 or that have fixes contained in SP2, uninstalling SP2 could adversely affect those programs.

If you turn off the automatic backup option for W2ksp2.exe, you cannot use the uninstall SP2 mechanism and, therefore, cannot uninstall the service pack.

Using Add/Remove Programs to Uninstall SP2
You can uninstall SP2 by using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
To uninstall SP2 by using Add/Remove Programs:
    1.
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

    2.
    Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Windows*2000 Service Pack 2, and then click Change/Remove.

    3.
    Follow the instructions that appear.

Using the Uninstall Program to Uninstall SP2
You can uninstall SP2 by running the uninstall program from the command prompt.
    To uninstall SP2:
    1.
Click Start, and then click Run.

    2.
In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.

    3.
Type cd %systemroot%\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\, and then press ENTER.

    4.
Type spuninst.exe, and then press ENTER.

    5.
To close the Command Prompt window, type exit.
For more information about SP2, see the Windows*2000 Service Pack Readme file (ReadMeSP.htm).

i did it with Xp even though it says windows 2000 see if it helps or not opinions delete this if it doesnt. i did it the way by going into system root folder and finding that hidden folder you might have to enable hidden folders to see the uninstall folder. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pr...ads/w2ksp2.mspx

    MORE INFORMATION
Warning This workaround may make your computer or your network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We do not recommend this workaround but are providing this information so that you can implement this workaround at your own discretion. Use this workaround at your own risk.Note You cannot remove Windows XP SP2 if you installed the service pack on a computer that already had Windows XP SP2 installed. The removal program will roll back to the version of Windows that existed before your installation. In this case, the program will roll back to the first installation of Windows XP SP2.
Important If you install Windows XP SP2 on a computer that is already running Windows XP SP2, you will create a new uninstall folder on your hard disk drive. This new folder will use 50-100 megabytes of disk space. Every time that you install Windows XP SP2, a new folder is created.
Use any one of the following methods to remove Microsoft Windows XP SP2 from your computer:

    • Use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel
    • Use the hidden $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder
    • Use the System Restore process
    • Use Recovery ConsoleImportant We recommend that you use the following methods in the order that they are listed.

Use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel

    1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Click to select the Show Updates check box.
    3. Click Windows XP Service Pack 2, and then click Remove.
    4. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Windows XP SP2.
    5. Perform a system restore to return the system to a point before Windows XP SP2 was installed.
Note See "Use the System Restore process" in this section.
    6. Click Start, click Run, type sfc /scannow, and then click OK. This will return the file system to the order that it had before you installed Windows XP SP2.

    Use the hidden $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder

    1. Click Start, click Run, type cwindows\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuni nst.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. When the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Removal Wizard starts, click Next.
    3. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Windows XP SP2.

    Use the System Restore process

    1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.

If the above solutions do not work for you, try this:

1.) Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Advanced Tab > Startup and Recovery Settings Button > System Startup Edit button.

2.) Your boot.ini file will open for editing. Change "/noexecute=xxxxx" to "/noexecute=AlwaysOff"

3.) Save it and restart your computer.

4.) See if your hacks work.

Here is another method you may want try as described by "DopEHeaD":
    1. Click Start
    2. Select Control Panel
    3. Select System
    4. Click the Advanced tab
    5. In the Performance region select Settings
    6. Click the Data Execute tab in the dialog box that opens
    7. Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select
    8. Click Add.
    9. The open dialog box will open. Browse and select your application.
    10. Click Open
    11. Click Apply
    12. Click Ok
    13. Reboot
