It's really cool IMO.

But the bar on the bottom is totally different.

It's more squareish for each window? And for the same application the windows are now stacked on the bottom bar.

I really like it.

7/XP/Ubuntu > Vista

I Just installed windows 7, and i gotta say, it seems a little bulky compared to my Vista theme, which was 'famous' for it's thinness... But i can get used to it...
Also, it kinda freaked out on me 5 minutes into turning it on for the first time, i was just sitting on AIM/MSN and it just blinked black for a couple seconds, thought i saw a cmd prompt... it was weird.. o.o then it said "update successful" i was like wtf? XD

I directly skipped Vista because i know it's horrible and shitty os.
Now my cats broke my old HD so i had to buy new and decided to give Win7 a try. It's awesome, i like it more than XP. :p

I also have Ubuntu but dont use it that much but it's awesome OS too :)

I moved to Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) on my VAIO Z notebook and I absolutely love it!
Better than Vista of course, not to be comparable, and it's newer than XP.
It's fast, light, stable and comfortable. Just love it until now (been using it only for 3 days).
It's nice to have your desktop totally clean (only Recycle Bin) without missing stuff

Hey Javex, thanks for this:

I waited for this windows for a long 1.5 years with Vista.
Cheers.

Been running it for about a week now on my laptop. I'm totally fine with it, runs smoothly, etc, etc. It is a shame how not all drivers seem to have been released yet, the mic of my laptop won't work anymore for now...

About to install it on a computer; haven't chose which one yet. I have to backup all 6,000 songs before I upgrade. Just in case.

Windows 7 is M$ back on form. Microsoft have a tendency of making a good OS and following it up with a crap one; anyone remember Windows ME?

Whilst Windows 7 is faster, more stable, lighter on resources than Vista it still suffers from the same problem: too many variations. XP was simple; Home and Pro. Vista came along and offered Basic, Home Basic (emerging markets only), Home Premium, Business and lastly Ultimate (with price tag to match). And, Windows 7 suffers the same problem: Starter, Home, Business, and Ultimate.

Infact, was in a local PC retailer buying my girlfriend a netbook when the sales person told us the netbook we were looking at had Windows 7 Home Basic on it. Even after correcting him, explaining the versions and showing him the M$ site with all the versions on it he still insisted on calling Home Basic. Must have missed the Tweet informing me Britain had become an emerging market!

Fully understand Microsoft needed to address the netbook market with a version (Starter), but for the love of geekdom, why stop ppl changing their desktop wallpaper?

Oh well, I'm off to upgrade my girlfriend's netbook to Home Premium via USB...

All depends on what you're after. She just needed something to do her coursework on, watch some movie files, and for it all to be in a small light package that would fit in her hand-bag. A netbook is perfect for her.

The problem with netbooks was/is the mis-selling the shops have been doing; prime examples are the mobile phone companies that were selling them as mini-laptops with a USB mobile internet dongle for £30 (UK Sterling) a month on a 2 year contract.

To be honest I never really rated them but I'm really impressed by it. Can see many situations where a student might use one or a PC engineer. So much so that I might get one for Chunukah.

Hm, some people that are taking classes at the same courses as I also have those netbooks. But I just prefer my regular 17" laptop. It seems all about mobility, while I consider performance way more important. But that's just a personal thing I guess.

personally I like my convertible tablet/notebook sure it's not as small as a netbook but I can doodle on it during class instead of taking notes, and when I do decide to take some notes I have the keyboard to make use of

I've been running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (dual booted with Ubuntu of course) for a couple months, I like it. It's basically what Vista should have been. Vista was a terrible operating system. If you're a Vista user, I highly recommend either upgrading to Windows 7 or downgrading to XP. If you're an XP user, you should give Windows 7 a try, decide for yourself.

At first glance you'll probably find Windows 7 surprisingly similar to Vista. For one, the visuals are much the same. After using Windows 7 for a while you'll notice there have been many small improvements. The first thing I noticed was that it starts up faster and uses much less resources by default. The whole operating system feels a lot less bloated, everything seems to have a slightly better response time.

You can't miss the new (Mac inspired) taskbar. I didn't like it at first without giving it a chance, I restored the old taskbar functionality. After thinking about it I thought I'd give it a fair chance. So I restored the new taskbar functionality and decided I would use it for an entire day. Now I love it, it saves space when you have many of the same applications open at once (including folders).
http://i.imagehost.org/0274/taskbar.png

The right click menu on taskbar applications has been replaced with a Jumplist. A Jumplist shows recent files (or websites or whatever), you can also pin shortcuts to your Jumplists. I have Windows Explorer pinned to my taskbar, here is it's Jumplist:
http://i.imagehost.org/0700/jumplist.png

UAC has been eased up and you can now set how you want it to work.
http://i.imagehost.org/0427/uac.png

The Task Manager now shows some more information.
http://i.imagehost.org/0638/taskmanager.png

In the Task Manager's Performance tab there is now a button called Resource Monitor. Opening that starts up Resource Monitor which is a very useful program that is now included in Windows which is great.
http://i.imagehost.org/0505/resourcemonitor.png

Something that I find particularly useful is the addition of hotkeys (making the Windows key a bit more useful). Windows key plus Left Arrow will make a Window take up only the left side of the screen, you can guess what Windows key plus Right Arrow does. There are a number of other hotkeys, I won't name them all. I've gotten used to setting windows side by side for various reasons. For example if you're reading a guide to a programming language, you can set Firefox to take the right half of the screen, and Notepad to take the other.

Another hotkey I will bring up actually is a new alt-tabbing feature with application launching. You can press Windows key plus a number to switch to different windows (numbered in the order they are on your taskbar). You can pin applications to your taskbar. So lets say the third pinned program on your taskbar is Firefox and it isn't running, pressing Windows key plus 3 will start Firefox.

You can now disable a whole lot more Windows features including Internet Explorer.
http://i.imagehost.org/0173/turnoffwindowsfeatures.png

If you looked at the screenshot you probably noticed that Microsoft has included a program for burning DVDs.

There a lots of little interface changes that you notice only after exploring the operating system. What else, well, Windows 7 includes DirectX 11.

There is a learning curve, especially for anyone coming from XP, but if you give it a chance, you'll probably like it.

In the two months that I've used Windows 7 I have not experienced a single crash. It does seem quite stable. I had come across one bug, but I believe it was caused by an application I had installed. Anyways I think I've explained enough, I probably missed some other changes that should have been mentioned.
I think that Windows 7 , And Vista are both good . Windows 7 is only faster when u boot up your computer and both W7 and Vista's themes look same so....If id have2 choose from them id take W7 or Vista couse both are good.
