The main thing that I miss from Ubuntu is the ability to have more than one taskbar. I would like to have one with only the Windows 7 Dock, and a second with the Start Menu, Clock, and application shortcuts. I don't like to admit it, but I find Windows 7 has noticeably better response times than Ubuntu.

hrm.... actually not noticing better response times on my end but first impressions from win7 aren't that bad.... I can see myself booting into it to play games without hating every moment of it like I did with vista for the 2 weeks that I had it installed.

Still keeping ubuntu as my primary OS on that system though.

The move away from DOS had to be done. Technology was advancing too quickly for DOS to stay as the foundation of a modern OS.

If you were an everyday Windows user then you would notice the differences, and I do mean differences: faster USB transfers, less resources wasted, and the others mentioned before.

It disturbs me that Windows 7 has actually got me excited about computing, again. Even so that I'm considering spending some money and build a new PC.

Close to a month with 7 and I simply love it.
The differences from Vista are enormous! Still haven't found anything that bothers me and disturbs my work. I had plenty with Vista.

My desktop is still totaly clean, nothing but recycle bin. And you're talking with someone who had full desktops before. nice one MS.

Going into sleep\hibernation mode is 10x faster than Vista and thats one of the things that bothered me the most. hurray

Really, like you scruie, I found myself excited about it during the first week.

...yeah I use to have a cluttered desktop as well, now it's completely empty.

It's coming up on 3 months that I've been using Windows 7. I am even happier with it now than before since I've managed to create a second taskbar (like I've been wanting for a decade in Windows).

How on earth did you do that?

On a widescreen monitor I can really see the usefulness of that dual task bar, use to RocketDock for awhile to get the Mac inspired launchpad. But that dual taskbar interests me.

Yeah, I've been wanting a second taskbar for a decade now. The creator of UltraMon is actually considering adding single monitor support in a future version, but until then I posted how I did it on DeviantArt: http://countedfor.deviantart.com/art...kbar-144173123
