Advice on how to not get busted while botting.
I'm a former L2-GM and most of my time ingame as a GM were spent catching bots. I know how it's done, and I also know how to get away with it. Follow these simple steps, and you won't get your account/IP banned!
* GM's move around to locations by either teleporting to a charactername, or by clicking one of their bookmarked locations. For them to teleport to a character, someone must have reported that character or otherwise catch the GM's attention worthy of investigation. * If not otherwise occupied, GM's tend to patrol their bookmarks and most active areas to see if people are behaving etc. 1) Don't bot in an area that is highly populated. 2) Don't bot in an area that is likely to be patrolled by a GM 3) Always see if there is a GM online by typing /GMlist, be extra cautious if there is. 4) Write down the GM's names and try pm'ing them before you bot, if they are hidden from the GMlist you'll still be able to pm them, unless they block PM's - but then you'll see "blocking messages" - otherwise, they are offline. 5) If you are at the computer and should be caught, log out the bots ASAP. * GM's have a GM interface with various buttons such as check account and IP info on a character. If you log out before they do that, they can't see your info, or jail you etc. If it's just a regular GM he can't ban you, due to lack of access, and he will most likely forget about you in a few hours or a day. If a high access GM catch you he may check your IP in server logs and ban it anyway. 6) If busted, DENY using a bot. Your little sister is helping you control the other character. She's really stupid and only 5 years old. * The most common way that a GM busts you for using bots are either if a player has shitloads of characters from the same IP, or if the bot has no randomization of action whatsoever - it obviously looks like a robot. They will then investigate further, by for example moving your character to see how fast it loads. L2Walker does not load any textures or the like, so the character appears as if loaded immediately. If you get ported on your normal client, it would take atleast 2 seconds for you to appear after loading. Bots appear right away. 7) Should you notice your bot being move around or not standing where it should, kill it right away because a GM is breathing up your neck. 8) Don't tell anyone you're using a bot. EVER. Absolutely nobody. You "don't even know how to do this advanced computer management stuff or whatever". Get it? 9) If you're botting to level up or farm money/items, do it somewhere ridiculously remote. It's usually not worth the risk. Hope this helps. I'll update if I think of something else. |
